Two questions,

Is the use of unsafe code permitted ( presumably this would have portability issues over the various .NET incarnations ) ?

Is there any guidance on typical array sizes that may be used to judge the contest?

No, we are looking for a managed code solution. We already provide an interface to MKL and ACML for those that want better native/unsafe performance.

Yes

We'd consider it under elegance.

 

>How large of an input are we expected to reasonably handle?

The test harness already takes about 20 minutes to complete. Increasing the matrix size past 1025 just isn't practical.  We'll run additional tests after we've narrowed down the entries to see how they scale with really large matrices.

Nope.
